Getting Started Scripting Modeling Clay Techniques Camera Techniques Stop Action Techniques
During our first class, we all looked at the book, Chicken
Run: Hatching the Movie, which is now out of print, but available on sites
such as Amazon. I use our video camera which was hooked up to our SMART
Board. We look at the book and learn that: real animators all work from a story
board, each animator has his or her own job to do, and that sometimes even real
animators don't get their way. The DVD of The Incredibles
also has extra features that are excellent in showing students how real animators work.
We then discussed the Aesop's
fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, and looked at library books to get
ideas of what parts of the story we wanted to include in our script.
Because of time limitations,
Mrs. Rose wrote our script and created the storyboard. The students spent a
class working with modeling clay to get ready for the creation of our clay figures.
Again, because of time limitations, not all of our video will be shot using stop action animation, which is the method of shooting a few seconds of film, moving the clay figure, and shooting another few seconds and so on. The story can also be told using camera techniques, narration, still images, and computer generated effects.
