And everyone CAN learn to draw better!   The most important trick to learning to draw well is to LEARN TO LOOK... really look, and see the shapes and lines that make up the object that you want to put down on paper.

Link to Mark Kistler In the Art Room, we use the excellent step-by-step drawing books by Mark Kistler. These how-to-draw lessons are not only great fun, but teach basic drawing concepts such as overlapping and shading that make our drawings look 3-D!  Drawing is a little like magic.  Flat lines on flat paper can become optical illusions of space!  Some things in our pictures seem very near, while other things appear to be far away.  Mr. Kistler's books can be found in book stores, or on-line: at his site.

bulletI am excited to report that there are new Mark Kistler Books from Scholastic, Inc. Look in your classroom take-home Scholastic order form sheet, or visit amazon.com!
bulletAn idea for classroom teachers is to purchase one or two how-to-draw books and have the pages cut from the bindings and laminated.  Store the pages in an art box Then your students can select one of the drawing lessons to do during "free time" or "rainy day recess".   This way many students can share the same book at the same time.
