Worm Farming (Worm composting) |

| Worm Faqs Page 1 | ||
My adventure with worm farming or to be more accurate "worm composting" began several years ago when the solid waste fees were in danger of going through the roof. Had the new ordinance taken effect in our town our garbage bill would have increased significantly.
The whole thing inspired me to find a way to recycle our junk mail, left-overs and plate scrappings to try to lessen the load going into our 90 gallon curbside dumpter.
The difinitive book on this subject is "Worms Eat My Garbage" by Mary Applehoff.
This book is a must read for anyone serious about composting with worms.
I have successfully raised worms and harvested their castings (vermicast) for almost 5 years now. I've taught on the topic in Community Education classes at our local Community college and presented the information to scout groups, community service organiztions, and many other groups. I have assisted several people in the construction and set-up of their own worm composting systems and at the present am setting up to consult on a larger commercial scale vermi-composting system for a local parochial school.
